About

sugar_cane_field2 stevia2

Growing up in South Louisiana, founder Sonny Berry fondly remembers his father driving him through sugar cane country during harvest. The visual treat of sugar cane fields as far as the eye could see and taste experience of pure cane sugar from its stalk left sweet memories of his childhood.

Decades later, when stevia was introduced to the U.S. market, the sweetener captured his attention. Working on an agave granulation project at the time in Mexico Sonny noticed stevia market leaders Truvia and PurVia had one thing in common – they were using GMO corn as a base to produce bulking agents like erythritol and dextrose which make up to 99.5% of the sweetener.

As a proponent of organic and non-GMO ingredients, a light came on in Sonny’s head. “Since everyone was trying to replicate the taste of real cane sugar, it made sense to consider sugar cane as a source for a natural bulking agent rather than GMO corn.”

After all cane sugar is the ultimate sweetener. It’s all natural, non-GMO, and can be grown organically. That led Sonny to a ten day trip to China, working remotely with process engineers in Germany, bench tests in Denmark, and back to Louisiana, to create a proprietary granulation method with a novel sugar crystal four times sweeter than regular cane sugar and only four calories per serving with a Glycemic Index of just 16

Lite Sugar has all the natural sweet taste of cane sugar with just 4 calories per serving, it’s finally here!

This journey has resulted in Sonny and his team of health conscious professionals with extensive backgrounds in all fields of the food and beverage industry to make it their mission to reduce sugar consumption by 75%. We are passionate about educating people about sweeteners to help them promote positive eating habits. Your good health is our business.

Lite Sugar

The problem that people have with all sugar today is not sugar itself, but the amount they consume. The average American eats 80 grams of sugar a day – three times the recommended upper limit. This is a result of food and beverage companies adding sugar in over 70% of the food products we eat. As the old saying goes, “too much of a good thing can make you sick.”

But thanks to Lite Sugar you really can have your cake and eat it too! Lite Sugar has all the natural sweet taste of cane sugar with just 4 calories per serving and best of all our patented process eliminates that after taste found in all other sweeteners.

One gram ( 1/4 teaspoon) = one teaspoon of sugar so a little goes a long way. Lite Sugar is just 95% cane sugar and 5% stevia nothing else added keeping it clean and simple. A sweetener you can feel good about and a taste you will enjoy!

Our Process

We start with the stevia leaf, and use only water and alcohol in our extraction. The resulting extract is treated with a vegetarian-source enzyme (glucosyl transferase) to reduce the licorice-like aftertaste of regular stevia extracts. The following are not used and not allowed: pesticides, fumigants, irradiation, other solvents, sulfer dioxide. There are no carriers or flow agents added to the extract other than what we claim on the label. The resulting high purity extract contains no less than 90% Glucosyl steviosides as measured by HPLC testing.

Products

Lite Sugar is simply pure cane sugar and stevia with no added flavors. Our products are all natural and Non-GMO. Lite Sugar's stevia extract is produced utilizing a patented process that eliminates the licorice-like aftertaste found in other stevia-based sweeteners. The result is a sweetener that tastes like sugar with only a quarter of the calories.

Clean Label

If you look at the ingredient lines of zero calorie sweeteners, you will see that they contain dextrose, inulin, or erythritol. These other ingredients contain calories, but the FDA allows these manufacturers to call their product “zero calorie” as long as they contain four calories or less per serving. At 4 calories per serving, Lite Sugar qualifies for “zero calorie” labeling, but we choose to list our calories. And our calories come naturally from cane sugar.

Clean Label is not a buzzword to us – it’s our mission. We stand for non-GMO, support Fair Trade, organic farming practices and truth-in-labeling. We want you to feel good about us, but more importantly, we want to be honest about what we sell to you.
